OUR PASTORS
Pastor Bob and Susan Beckett
Senior Pastors of The Dwelling Place Family Church
Pastor Bob met Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1968 while studying tool design engineering . He was led to Christ by a fellow worker and was miraculously healed at the same time. He has been active in ministry ever since.
Pastor Bob was on staff with Melodyland Christian Center of Anaheim, California for six years. During that time he developed a follow-up counseling program with the nations’ largest hotline and emergency counseling service covering approximately 8,000 phone calls each month. Bob has experience in drug rehabilitation, family crisis and substance abuse counseling.
In 1973 Bob married his lovely wife Susan. They have two daughters, Sharon and Susanne. Both are married and active in full time ministry. Sharon, their oldest daughter, has two children, Ashlie and Jessica. Susanne, their youngest, has a daughter, Sierra.
In 1974 Bob and Susan moved to San Jacinto, California where they helped establish and direct a 300 acre juvenile placement facility servicing all of Southern California. Juveniles were taken from the court system and injected into a Christian family atmosphere containing staff and students numbering 35-40 people. During this time Pastor Bob also traveled in the Mid-Western states to establish hotlines and teach organizations how to initiate Christian hotline services and emergency referrals.
While continuing his position as director at the juvenile facility, Bob pioneered a fellowship of believers in 1975. In September of 1976 he resigned as director and began as full-time Pastor of Valley Chapel located in Hemet, now re-named The Dwelling Place Family Church. In the mid-70's Bob occasionally traveled and ministered with Evangelist Dick Mills, who has been a long-time personal friend and mentor.
Along with teaching prayer topics, Pastor Bob added the subject of strategic intercession as an enhancer to his prayer teaching. The subject is intended to strengthen and mobilize churches cross-denominationally; to help churches to see their cities in a personal way; to encourage churches regardless of their size in order that they can be a force that must be reckoned with.
Local strategic intercession, as taught by Pastor Bob, is a subject that has been 25 years in development; literally since he and his family moved into the valley. Pastor Bob taught on this subject matter as part of C. Peter Wagner’s World Missions Class and Spiritual Issues in Church Growth classes at Fuller Seminary. He has produced a full audio series along with a syllabus. Pastor Bob’s book, Commitment to Conquer, was released in June of 1997. Pastor also authored a chapter in C. Peter Wagner’s book Breaking Strongholds, both books published by Chosen Books of Baker Book House.
